Welcome to the official website of the Edo Cultural Center Project sponsored by the Edo Association of Washington, DC Metropolis (EAWDC), a non-profit and non-partisan organization comprised of the Edo people in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Region (or National Capital Region) of the United States of America.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
The Edo people all over the world particularly in the National Capital legion (NCR) of the United States recently came to the realization that its rich and globally acclaimed Edo culture, language and heritage are on the path to extinction, if steps are not taken to preserve them. The world acclaimed Benin arts and artifacts, crafts and “carvings”, sculptures in brass or bronze are dispersed, archived, and displayed by admirers of the art and culture as historical treasures and relics in museums and exhibitions all over the world.
Therefore, the Edo community in the NCR wants to proudly share the history of their rich cultural heritage and display their arts to promote them. A consensus was reached by the members of the Edo Association of Washington DC (EAWDC) to establish a grand facility worthy of the richness of the Edo arts and culture in the NCR to serve as the focal point for the education, promotion and propagation of the Edo culture and heritage while also raising its status and awareness worldwide.
